Parent and Child Arduino Robotics Workshop
It does not have to be a parent. It could be a big sister, uncle, geeky neighbor whoever you choose.
The class is six weeks long and meets in Sept and Oct. on Sundays from 12:30 - 3:00 pm*.
Robots are very engaging. They can hold a student's attention much longer than a mere toy. This allows us to teach serious programming and electronics concepts and skills.
We use the Arduino programming environment and LEGO® elements. Progressing quickly from simple blinking LEDs to moving robots keeps this class fast and fun. Next, the students learn to control their robots so they can drive in patterns, drive towards the light like a moth, hide in the darkest corner like a cockroach, by remote control and like self-driving cars stay on the road and detect and avoid collisions. (Order and selection of activities can vary depending on the interests and skill levels of the participants)
The Arduino system has taken the maker community by storm. Artists, designers, students, and anyone who wants to make something in their world a little smarter and cooler can do it with an Arduino. With this system, you can have your houseplants send a Tweet when they need water, make a laser harp, or even build a fire-breathing dragon robot. But first, you need to learn how to program one. That is one of the main objectives for this class.
