Sumo and Rock Climbing: Ages 7-12
Campers use the a combination of LEGO and computer-controlled mBot2 to design and build their own Sumo Battle Robots. They will use motors, servos, gears, sensors, a robot brain, and LEGO technic pieces.
In the ultimate test of the arena, robots battle in a 4 ft. diameter ring until one is pushed out. Campers are introduced to "outcomes driven" design. Through repeatedly trying their ideas in the arena they develop new strategies. Both mechanical (speed vs. power) and software (smart vs. simple) innovations are tested and refined.
The material is all new this year. Campers who have experience with the LEGO Mindstorms, or LEGO Spike and/or campers who have taken our sumo courses before will have an entirely new set of hardware and software.
As with all Rocks and Robots programs, we go outside several times a day for inclusive group games and confidence building activities.
In addition to the robotics activities, campers are trained in rock climbing safety and knot tying, before taking two afternoon field trips to Planet Rock on Tuesday and Thursday. On these days, camp is extended until 5:00pm.
Full day sessions: 9:00 to 3:30 (M,W,F), 9:00 to 5:00 (T,Th)
