Build Your Own Self-Flying Robot and Rock Climbing: Ages 12-15
Flying Robots?! For years now, campers have asked, "Can we make it fly?" The NXT brick just weights too much so I have always had to say "Sorry, maybe someday." Well, someday has arrived! Last year I saw a quadcopter up close for the first time. It was very cool, but the price was still too high at nearly $1000 in parts. We decided to use the Arduino system as an alternative.
The Arduino system has taken the maker community by storm. Artists, designers, students, and anyone who wants to make something in their world a little smarter and cooler can do it with an Arduino. With this system, you can have your houseplants send a Tweet when they need water, make a laser harp, or even build a fire-breathing dragon robot. But first, you need to learn how to program one.
This session teaches hardcore programming and electronics with fun flying robots. The best part is (for an extra $20) the campers get to keep the robot when they're finished!
In addition to the robotics activities, campers are trained in rock climbing safety and knot tying, before taking two, afternoon field trips to Planet Rock on Tuesday and Thursday. On these days, the camp is extended until 5:00 pm. As with all Rocks and Robots programs, we go outside several times a day for inclusive group games and free play.

Purchase options: You can purchase only the camp, the camp plus take home your robot or after camp, if you want to do your own races at home, you can buy a second flying robot.
