Drag Racers, Robots and Rescue – 2nd-5th Grade

Students start by designing and building an electric dragster out of LEGO. They learn about inertia, energy and friction while they improve their designs and race their results. We move on to programmable robot vehicles using the Mindstorms NXT robot controller. These are not remote control cars they are robot controlled. Finally, we will introduce the full NXT robotics kits with an icon based, drag and drop picture-based language. Students will program their robots to deliver the mail, take out the trash and rescue victims of a natural disaster. Course is 6 weeks long.
